The General Commander of the Libyan Army Discusses Security Cooperation and Combating Migration with the EU Delegation in Benghazi

The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, Marshal of War Akran “Khalifa Abu Al-Qasim Haftar,” received at his office at the General Command headquarters in Benghazi the European Union Ambassador to Libya, Mr. Nicola Orlando; the Commander of the EU naval operation “IRINI,” Admiral Marco Casabieri; and the Head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM), Mr. Jan Fichtal. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, and the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on local and regional developments and discussed ways to combat illegal migration, human trafficking networks, and drug trafficking.

The Commander-in-Chief emphasized the important role of the European Union in supporting regional security and stability, and the impact of this support on neighboring countries.

On their part, the visiting delegation praised the General Command’s efforts to achieve security and stability in Libya and to secure the country’s land and maritime borders.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to continue efforts aimed at achieving lasting stability in Libya.
